Plant Description

Life Cycle: Perennial
Family: Rosaceae
Origin: Hybrid Origin
Special Features: Compact and free-flowering seed strain with orange-red blooms, reblooms often September-October. Can withstand dry periods in any good garden soil.
Historical: Once, while Wilhelm Schacht was on Musala, in the Rila mountains with King Boris III of Bulgaria, he found a natural G. hybrid, which he then named G. x borisii after his employer. The name x borisii for the cross between G. bulgaricum and Geum reptans, was then mistakenly given to several breeds of G. coccineum. Later, Georg Ahrends also named his new breeds G. x borisii plus cultivar. The true G. x borisii can still be found in the UK but is seldom cultivated.
