Plant Description

Article Type: (GOLD NUGGET SEED ®)
Life Cycle: Perennial
Family: Rosaceae
Origin: South Korea
Distinction: Award of Garden Merit (A.G.M.) from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Special Features: Lovely feathery foliage. Flowers with partially red stems. Perennial Plant of the Year 2010 in Sweden. Full sun in cool summer climates to semi-shade elsewhere.
Historical: After a brief appearance in 1936 in Scotland (as Astilbe) this aruncus was lost from sight. In the seventies it reappeared, having been reintroduced by some Swedish botanists. Unfortunately they had brought back only male plants. Dick Lighty of the Longwood Botanic Garden, USA, arranged to bring back seeds and shared them with K. Jelitto, which ensured the seed crop in Europe. In 1984 Jelitto were then the first seed company in a position to sell this species of aruncus seeds.
