In the seventies, Klaus R. Jelitto developed a new treatment to break the dormancy for cold germinators and presented this innovative product for the first time in his 1978 perennial seed catalogue.

This GOLD NUGGET SEED^® assortment no longer needs a period of low temperature to break dormancy. Depending on the variety, the seeds will germinate evenly and promptly 10 to 28 days after sowing; untreated seed would need two to six months.

The advantage is obvious - a shorter and more controlled growing period with more productive results!

Thanks to extensive research we have been able to significantly expand the range of JELITTO GOLD NUGGET SEED^® to 321 species and varieties. JELITTO GOLD NUGGET SEED^® is distinctively marked with 2% golden coloured seeds and identified by G as the second letter in the item number.

JELITTO GOLD NUGGET SEED^® is also particularly suitable for sowing direct into cells so that subsequent pricking-out can be dispensed with. They require only about half the amount of seed that would be required with untreated seed.
